Punjab Elections 2022: SAD Expels Former MLA, Son

Punjab Assembly Elections 2022: Two days after the Punjab Assembly Polls, former Moga MLA Joginder Pal Jain, his son Akshit Jain, who is a former Moga mayor, and four other local leaders were expelled from the SAD (Shiromani Akali Dal) for anti-party activities.

Joginder Pal Jain was elected to the Punjab assembly three times, including the 2013 by-election. He had won in 2007 and 2012 from the Congress ticket. Later, he switched to the SAD and won the 2013 byelection.

Other leaders who were expelled along with him are Parget Singh, a former vice-president of the district Youth Akali Dal, Jagdeep Singh Gatra, a former president of the district Youth Akali Dal, Dr. Sharanpreet Singh Micky Gill, and Veerbhan Dhan, a former councilor.

As per the sources, the local unit of the SAD accused the Jain family of helping candidates of opposition parties.

The district SAD president Tirath Singh Mahla said that the six leaders have been expelled with immediate effect.

Akshat Jain, who was the first mayor of Moga municipal corporation, said, “We are with party president Sukhbir Singh Badal and will always be with him. We will meet Sukhbir and accept the decision whatever he takes”.
