Goa polls 2022: Shiv Sena, NCP Announce Alliance

Goa polls 2022: On Wednesday (19th January) NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) and Shiv Sena announced a pre-poll alliance for the Goa Assembly Elections.

While addressing a joint press meet in Panaji, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut and NCP’s senior leader Praful Patel said that the two parties had approached the Congress to extend Maharashtra’s Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance to Goa but they did not receive a favorable response from the Congress party leadership.

Praful Patel said, “We had thought that we should extend the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) from Maharashtra to Goa. Congress has to play a major role and we (Shiv Sena and NCP) would contest on some seats”.

As per Raut, both parties would contest about 10 to 12 seats each out of the 40 seats for the upcoming election.

Sanjay Raut said, “In Goa, there is a lot of confusion on the ground. There is BJP, TMC, Congress, AAP other parties. In this confusion, we may not be in a position to form a government but we will have an important role to play in the formation of the like-minded government”.

The NCP and Shiv Sena alliance is expected to announce its candidate in the coming few days.

The Goa Assembly polls are going to be held on 14th February in a single phase. The votes counting will take place on 10th March.
