SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav To Contest UP Polls From Karhal in Mainpuri District

Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022: On Thursday, Samajwadi Party announced that their chief Akhilesh Yadav is going to contest the UP Assembly election from Karhal constituency in Mainpuri district.

Currently, Akhilesh Yadav is the Lok Sabha MP from the Azamgarh constituency. Till now, he has not contested a state election. When he became the UP CM in the year 2012, he took the Legislative Council route.

Earlier, there was speculation that the Samajwadi party leader may contest from Gopalpur in Azamgarh, Mainpuri Sadar, Chhibramau in Kannauj, or Gunnaur in Sambhal.

Currently, Sobaran Singh Yadav from Samajwadi Party is the MLA of Karhal. Since 1993, SP Party has won this seat seven times. In the 2002 election, the BJP had won the Karhal constituency.

Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be contesting the election from Gorakhpur Urban. Chandra Shekar Azad who is from Azad Samaj Party will be contesting for this same seat.

Uttar Pradesh Election 2022

The UP Assembly elections 2022 will be conducted in seven phases starting from 10th February onwards and the counting of votes will take place on 10th March.

The last Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh conducted in 2017 were also held in seven phases. In this election, the BJP and its allies had won 312 constituencies out of 403.

This time, four parties named BJP, Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party, the Congress, and Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party are contesting the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
