Punjab Elections 2022: On Wednesday, the SAD (Shiromani Akali Dal) announced the candidature of former minister Bikram Singh Majithia from the Amritsar East constituency. He was fielded against PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. This was announced by the Party president Sukhbir Singh Badal in Amritsar.
Sukhbir also announced his father and SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal as the party’s candidate from the Badal family’s traditional Lambi seat in Muktsar.
Sukhbir announced, “Bikram Singh Majithia has been wrongly conveyed in a drug case and now he will be contesting against the Congress state president Navjot Singh Sidhu.”
Sidhu has been demanding action against Majithia in the drug case and had even run-in with his own government over delay in FIR filing and his arrest.
After the announcement, Bikram Singh Majithia took Twitter and posted: “I am expressing my gratitude to the chief of Akali Dal S.Sukhbir S.Badal Ji for giving me an opportunity to contest from Amritsar East constituency. Akalis have a brave history of fighting for the safeguard Punjabis’ rights and protecting them from the anti-Punajb elements”.
