Punjab Elections 2022: Setback For Congress As Three Amritsar Councillors Join AAP

Punjab Elections 2022: In a setback for Congress ahead of Punjab Assembly Elections, three councilors of the party from the Amritsar unit joined the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) in the presence of Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia on Thursday.

The Congress councilors who have switched to AAP ahead of assembly elections are Mandeep Ahuja, Priyanka Sharma, and Gurjeet Kaur. This development came a day after Amritsar Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu joined the party led by Kejriwal.

Sisodia took Twitter and said that these leaders were inspired by the honesty and working politics of Arvind Kejriwal.

The assembly elections in Punjab will be held in a single phase on 20th February and the votes’ counting will take place on 10th March.

The ruling Congress Party and the AAP are seen as the main contenders in the upcoming state assembly elections.

In the last assembly elections, Congress had won a huge majority in the state by winning 77 seats and ousted the BJP-SAD government after 10 years in power.

Complaint Filed Against Kejriwal in Mohali

Earlier on Wednesday, a complaint was filed against Arwind Kejriwal at a police station in Mohali, Punjab for his alleged collaboration with Khalistani separatists. The complainant, Congress leader Sandeep Dixit, in his complaint quoted an interview of former Aam Aadmi leader Kumar Vishwas.

As per Dikshit, the former AAP leader in the interview had spoken about his and Kejriwal’s conversations during Punjab Assembly elections 2017.
