UP Polls: Akhilesh Claims EVM Theft, Poll Panel Says Used For Training

UP Polls: Two days ahead of the counting of votes for the UP assembly polls, SP (Samajwadi Party) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday accused the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) of stealing votes and also claimed that his party workers stopped a truck having EVMs in Varanasi.

The state CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) in a statement said the EVMs were being brought in Varanasi for the training of polling officers scheduled on Wednesday, and also insisted that the EVMs used in polling are sealed and guarded and are being observed with 2487 monitoring.

During a press conference in Lucknow, the SP chief alleged that the state administration was indulging in voter fraud.

Speaking to the media, Varanasi DM Kaushal Sharma said, “There were 20 machines in a pick-up truck that was stooped by the people. People have confused about whether polling EVMs were being transported. All the candidates, magistrates have been called here to clarify this. The 20 machines were for training and they don’t have a connection with polling EVMs. We have decided that the training will be carried out without the EVMs and other issues will be probed”.

Akhilesh Yadav claimed that no information was given with regard to the transportation of the ballots and he also demanded the action against Varanasi DM Kaushal Sharma and Commissioner.
