Uttarakhand Election 2022: BJP Promises To Bring Uniform Civil Code If Retains Power

Uttarakhand Elections 2022: Today, the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) said that it will initiate the process of implementing UCC (Uniform Civil Code) in Uttarakhand if they retain power. Announcing this through a video message, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the move is aimed at protecting the spiritual-cultural heritage of Uttarakhand and will provide an equal opportunity for all citizens, irrespective of their religions.

Mr. Dhami said, “Soon after the swearing-in, our government will form a committee comprising of judicial, retired, and intellectual people of society to prepare UCC draft in the state. This Uniform Civil Code will provide same laws regarding marriage, divorce, property inheritance for all people, irrespective of their faith”.

He further added that the UCC will be an important step in the direction of realizing Article 44 of the Indian Constitution.

This announcement was made just two days before the state assembly elections for 70 seats. Uttarakhand people going to elect their new government on 14th February and the counting of votes will be on 10th March.

The Uniform Civil Code has been a controversial issue and the BJP leaders and MPs have been raising it from time to time, outside and inside parliament.
