Elections 2022: On Friday, the Election Commission (EC) informed that it has seized cash the valuables worth more than Rs 1000 Crores amid the ongoing Assembly elections in the five states.
According to the Election Commission, Punjab topped the list among the five poll-bound states from where the maximum amount of seizures has been made. This makes the half of the total seized amount. Around 500 crores worth of cash and valuables have been seized during the Punjab assembly elections by the state election commission.
Punjab tops the list with a seizure of Rs 510.91 crore, followed by Uttar Prades of Rs 307.92 crore and Manipur with Rs 307.92 crore. During the elections, Rs 18.81 cr, and Rs 12.73 cr were seized in Uttarakhand and Goa respectively.
The Election Commission also met the heads of enforcement agencies like CBIC, CBDT, NCB, and Excise, as well as senior officials from bordering states to polling states to ensure inducement-free elections.
The assembly elections 2022 have already been concluded in Goa, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, four of the seven phases of the Uttar Pradesh elections have been completed and the remaining three stages will take place on Feb 27, March 3 & 7. Manipur will witness the polls in two phases on 28th February and 5th March. All poll-bound states ballots counting will take place on March 10.
