Sonia Gandhi will stay as the Congress chief, said the party after a more than four-hour-long meeting regarding the party’s huge defeat in the state assembly elections. This comes as a massive rout in the five states revived searching criticism of the Gandhi family and demands for a change in leadership.
After the party’s working committee meeting, Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi will lead us and will take future steps and we all have trust in the leadership of her”.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal, party’s leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan, P Chidambaram, and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge were among these who attended the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
All India Congress Committee Goa in charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao said that a detailed discussion was held at the meeting regarding the state elections.
The Congress lost Punjab to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), could not win Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Goa from the BJP. The party’s tally in the politically significant Uttar Pradesh fell to its lowest.
