Charanjit Singh Channi: On Sunday, Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi announced Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi as the Chief Ministerial face of the party for the Punjab Assembly Elections 2022. While announcing the decision at a virtual rally in Ludhiana, Rahul Gandhi said, “It’s not a decision of Rahul Gandhi but of Punjab. People told us they need a person who can understand the poor. I can have an opinion but can not decide, I agreed with the People of Punjab.”
Charanjit Singh Channi was the first Dalit Cheif Minister of Punjab state, who was sworn in after Capt. Amarinder Singh quit last year. After the decision, Channi said, “I thank everyone. This is a very big battle and I can not fight it alone. I don’t have money, courage to fight it, the people of Punjab will fight this battle.”
Punjab CM Channi and State Unit chief Sidhu were in the race to be named as the Congress CM face of Punjab.
For the last couple of months, Navjot Singh Sidhu has been blowing cold and hot within the party. As of now, he seems to have made peace with the situation. Sidhu had made it clear that he will abide by the decision of the party’s high command.
